Gearing up for the Mountain Bike & Cycling season in Morzine

We have had such a fantastic amount of snow in Morzine and the Portes du Soleil this Winter that the mountain bike season which normally begins around the end of May has been put back a couple of weeks so that the snow can melt!

This cycling season kicks off on the weekend of 18th June with the Cyclosportive "The Morzine-Valle d'Aulps"  A road cycle race with 2 circuits (150 and 97 km), with a climb of the famous Col de Joux Plane one of the highlights. The Tour de France will climb this pass in July just before dropping down into Morzine for the stage finish.

The first major Mountain Bike event takes place from 30th June until 2nd July  - The Passports du Soleil MTB. For 3 days, mountain bikers (in waves of 1500 per day) can discover the entire MTB area. An 80 km circuit will take you on this wonderful tour of our area and will include unbeatable check-points providing snacks, offering mainly local products including Abondance cheese, local ham, Swiss chocolate, wine… (but don't forget you have to ride back afterwards!). If you are interested in taking part, please book your place now as entries are limited and going fast! Call us on 0033450790826 and we will book your place for you if you wish.

If an organised event like this is not for you, why not visit us for a long weekend - or longer - to sample some of the fantastic trails around Morzine and the Portes du Soleil. Morzine is well known as one of the best mountain bike resorts in the Alps and we are happy to cater for groups of bikers. We have secure storage facilities with a small workshop area where you can work on your own bike, experienced guides to show you around if you require and excellent contacts with reputable hire shops if you would prefer to hire bikes or equipment for any time during your stay.

The Tour de France is coming to town

The whole town is now gearing up for the biggest event of the Summer. The Tour de France comes to Morzine on 20th July at the end of a long, gruelling day in the mountains. This year, we are especially lucky because instead of heading off to start the next day in another town, Morzine is also the start point for the next stage. As this is just a couple of days before the finish, we should know the likely winners by the time it reaches us. We still have a couple of rooms available during this week. Call us today to reserve your place - they are going very quickly!

Training for a Triathlon?

Morzine is fast becoming a very popular location for Triathletes to come and train. The facilities here are superb for the sport and rival many purpose built centres. In the centre of town we have a 50m open air pool which is laned off to allow swimmers to train away from children playing - or if you need to train for an open water swim, the lake at Montriond on the edge of town is 1km long and is an ideal place to train. In July and August the water is warm enough to swim without a wetsuit. There is no need to make any more of the superb cycling in the area than we already have - if it's good enough for the Tour de France, then any triathlete will be happy to train here. As for running, the miles of trails around the area make for not only an enjoyable run in traffic free conditions but also one where you can take in the majestic scenery on your route. Olympic athletes have used The Farmhouse when staying in Morzine for pre competition training because we know how to look after bodies that have been pushing the limits all day! By the way, we should send our congratulations to Liam Kileen who won Gold in the Commonwealth games in Melbourne in the Men's Mountain Biking event. Liam has used the Farmhouse for pre event preparation.

Other Summer Events

We have mentioned a few special events taking place in Morzine this Summer in some detail but you may be interested in other events coming up:

The resort is open from 3rd June until 10th September and many more events will be announced soon. Keep your eye on www.morzine.com for full details. If you are interested in coming to Morzine to enjoy the huge amount of activities available here but are concerned that your young children may not be able to participate, why not take advantage of our Nanny service provided by Jack Frosts? You can spend time doing your own thing knowing that your children will be well taken care of.
Many of our guests come here to simply walk in the mountains and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. If this is more your style than careering down mountains at high speed, then we are pleased to offer guided walking tours. I have lived in this area for 15 years and I have a wealth of knowledge of walks for all abilities around this and other areas which I would be happy to share with you. I am happy to accompany you on walks in the mountains and show you the "undiscovered" parts of the Portes du Soleil that the guidebooks rarely mention.
